How to use Aloe Vera - The Miracle Herb

People have been using Aloe Vera for hundreds if not thousands of years for its amazing properties, I use it nearly every day. A great addition to smoothies and something I reccomend to everyone. What makes aloe so great? Read on to find out.

Internally:
  • Being a potent anti viral, anti fungal and anti bacterial eating aloe vera can help settle your stomach. If you're going to eat a meal that you think will upset your stomach eat some aloe vera gel before and after the meal. This will kill any living thing in the meal which may harm you.
  • Aloe vera has many vitamins including vitamin A, B (B1, B2, B4, B6 and B12), C, E and Folate.
  • That isn't all! It contains lots of minerals, anti inflammatory plant strols, lignin (which I will mention later in the article), enzymes to aid digestion, phytonutrients and many more wonderful properties.
  • Helps people with poor appetite.
Topically to skin to treat:
  • Burns
  • Wounds
  • Insect bites
  • Athletes foot
  • Acne
  • Warts
  •  etc etc etc
How to harvest

When harvesting aloe it is best to get the younger softer leaves. Grasp the plant (be careful of the spikes) then bend it back and fourth until it snaps. There will be a yellow sap that comes out of the aloe, don't consume this because it has a powerful laxative effect. A tip to get rid of all the sap from the plant hold it cut side down until it all drips out.

The flesh should be clear, if it is white this indicates that is it old and/or dry. While there is nothing necessarily wrong with this the younger the flesh the better as with most plants.

Preparation

To eat the aloe you can fillet one of the sections of the plant by first cutting off the edges, then carefully cut off the top layer of the skin then the bottom. Once the flesh is removed it must be used with in 10 minutes or it will go extremely bitter and lose a lot of its nutritional value.

To use it topically I usually use my hands to break the spikes off and peel the skin, but do whatever you like. Leave one side of the skin on and you have yourself a natural beauty product! Rub it into your skin and reap the benefits.
